ZPower President and CEO to Highlight Achievements in Silver-Zinc Battery Technology for Mobile Devices at Fall 2007 Intel Developer Forum

Dr. Ross Dueber, President and CEO of ZPower Inc., formerly known as Zinc Matrix Power, will be a featured speaker in the Extended Battery Life (EBL) panel at the Fall 2007 Intel Developer Forum. The panel, titled “Realizing the Vision of All Day and Beyond Battery Life for Mobile PCs,” will present insights into the significance of battery life and will discuss industry initiatives underway to extend battery life.

Dr. Dueber’s company, ZPower, develops advanced, rechargeable silver-zinc batteries. Initially targeted for notebook computers, cell phones and MP3 players, ZPower batteries have 30% greater energy density than traditional lithium-ion batteries.

In addition to the performance benefits, ZPower™ batteries are inherently safe. The technology features a water-based chemistry that is not flammable or toxic. The battery contains no lithium or flammable liquids and is therefore free from the problems of thermal runaway, fire and danger of explosion. Silver-zinc batteries are not subject to airline restrictions, and passengers can travel without worry.

ZPower™ batteries also offer consumers an environmentally friendly alternative. The primary elements used to produce the batteries can be 100 percent recycled and re-used. The raw materials recovered in the recycling process of silver-zinc batteries are the same quality as those that went into the creation of the battery. Environmental impact is lessened since the need to mine for new materials is minimized. The company plans to offer incentives so consumers can save money by recycling the batteries.

ZPower is currently working with leading manufacturers of notebook computers and cell phones to incorporate silver-zinc technology in next generation products. ZPower will begin high volume production of ZPower™ batteries in mid 2008.

"In order to achieve longer battery life for mobile PCs, innovation in power sources technology is essential," said Kamal Shah, manager, Mobility Enabling Initiative, Mobile Platforms Group, Intel Corporation. "ZPower continues to show strong potential for delivering a safe and high capacity power source.”

ZPower will exhibit its ZPower™ batteries within the EBL Community at IDF. The company won Intel’s “Technology Innovation Accelerated” (TIA) Award in the Mobility category at the 2006 Fall IDF conference.
